Summer has arrived, and in Rome everything’s ready for the first events of the season. From film to music and art, it’s all about Roman tradition and culture, made of simple, genuine things. And the same goes for food: typical Roman dishes are actually based on genuine fresh ingredients, the result of passion and care in the selection of the right products.
If you’re in the Eternal City this summer, don’t miss the events that enliven it at this time of year; and if you choose to eat in central Rome between one experience and the next, you really must try our summer menu, with plenty of options to combat the heat of Rome., with plenty of options to combat the heat of Rome.
INFINITY: contemporary art without limits
An essential step to start a summer day on the right foot is the new exhibition INFINITY: contemporary art without limits by Michelangelo Pistoletto, on display at the beautiful Bramante Cloister until 15 October 2023. It’s a fascinating journey among more than 50 works that trace Pistoletto’s 60-year career, including historical pieces and more recent installations.
Curated by Danilo Eccher, the exhibition tells the artist’s story in a moving journey from 1962 to 2023, illustrating the infinite narrative possibilities of contemporary art. The setting is an extraordinary and captivating venue right in the heart of Rome.
After a modern exhibition, we recommend a cultural itinerary through the streets of the historic centre, arriving at our restaurant at the perfect time for lunch. At Ristorante Amedeo you’ll find traditional Roman dishes and more innovative specialities. For a summer lunch, we suggest our Ravioli with eggplant and smoked provola in tomato sauce with basil pesto and buffalo stracciatella cheese, ideal for summer, or a fresh main course salad like our Insalatona Stracciata , which we make using torn pieces of buffalo mozzarella, mixed leaves, cherry tomatoes and Taggiasca olives.
Live music and concerts
In summer, Rome becomes a huge stage, ready to welcome hundreds of Italian and international artists. The Circus Maximus, the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Piazza del Popolo and other venues turn into the beating heart of the city, hosting pop, rock or classical music events.
You should definitely not miss the concerts at the Circus Maximus, one of the capital’s key historical sites, which will feature performers including Marco Mengoni, Imagine Dragons and Max Pezzali. We also recommend taking in Roma Summer Fest 2023 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, to hear the new output of emerging young artists.
Before the concert, don’t forget to charge your batteries with a delicious lunch or dinner at Ristorante Amedeo. If you’re keen to try Roman specialities we recommend our main courses such as Saltimbocca alla romana with mixed vegetables or Panko-fried calamari and prawns with home-made citrus mayonnaise, two mouthwatering recipes that will give you new strength after a long day in the Roman sun.
Open-air cinema
Besides art and music, Rome is also world famous as the birthplace of cinema. To celebrate the cradle of cinematography, this year there are 24 open-air cinemas in some of the city’s most iconic places, from Teatro Ettore Scola in Villa Borghese to the Roma Cinema Arena in Parco degli Acquedotti. Here you can see (or re-see) masterpieces of Italian and world cinema, thanks to series of vintage and modern movies.
After all that art, music and film, the best conclusion to your summer day in Rome is a traditional Roman meal. From Ristorante Amedeo we’d like to suggest two fabulous desserts, among the most popular on our restaurant’s summer menu. First and foremost, you can’t leave without trying our home-made Tiramisù, one of the quintessential Roman specialities. But if you prefer a lighter end to a meal, perhaps our Hazelnut mousse with nut crumble and hazelnut gelato is the one for you.
In short, now all you need to do is leap into the Roman summer for an all-round food and culture experience. The capital is never lacking interesting and original events; but we’ll take care of the traditional Roman food.
